Privacy Policy

We built Townsaid to collect as little as possible. Here is exactly what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

1. Who we are

Townsaid, Inc. (“Townsaid”, “we”, “us”) is a Delaware corporation. We provide a software service that checks how AI assistants answer local questions about businesses. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you visit townsaid.com, email us, or use our service. If you have questions, email hello@townsaid.com.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to respond to you and run the service:

  • Information you send us by email. When you request a free check or contact us, you may send your name, email address, business name, website, city and neighborhood, a description of what your business does, and competitor names.
  • Customer information. If you become a customer, we collect business details, service areas, the questions you choose to track, competitor names, and account details such as your name, email address and the people on your team.
  • Billing information. Payments are processed by our third-party payment processor. We receive limited information such as your billing name, the last four digits of your card and your billing history. We do not store full card numbers.
  • AI platform answers. For each tracked question, we collect and store the answers returned by third-party AI platforms, including the businesses they name and the sources they cite. These answers may contain the names of businesses and, occasionally, people mentioned in public sources.
  • Site usage. We use basic, privacy-friendly analytics to understand how our website is used, such as pages viewed, referring site, approximate region and device type. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.

3. How we use information

  • To respond to your emails and run free checks you request.
  • To provide, maintain and improve the service, including running daily checks, calculating scores and preparing reports and fix lists.
  • To manage accounts, process payments and send service and billing messages.
  • To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and enforce our Terms of Service.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

4. AI answers come from third parties

To run checks, we send your tracked questions to third-party AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity, and record their answers. We send the questions and the location context needed to ask them, not your account details. Those platforms process questions under their own privacy policies, and we do not control the content of their answers.

5. How we share information

We share personal information only in these cases:

  • Service providers that help us operate the service, such as hosting, email, analytics and payment processing. They may use the information only to provide services to us.
  • Legal requirements, when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, subpoena or court order, or is necessary to protect the rights, safety or property of Townsaid, our customers or others.
  • Business transfers, if Townsaid is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, in which case information may be transferred subject to this policy.

If you use Townsaid through an agency, your agency can see the data in its client workspaces.

6. No selling or advertising sharing

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have not done so in the past 12 months.

7. Data retention

  • Account data, including tracked questions, AI answers and reports, is kept for the life of your account plus 90 days, then deleted.
  • Email inquiries, including free check requests, are kept for 24 months from your last message, then deleted.
  • We may keep billing records longer where tax or accounting law requires it.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls and limited staff access. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.

9. US-only service

Townsaid is offered to businesses in the United States, and we store and process information in the United States. The service is not directed to people outside the United States.

10. Your privacy rights

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA) gives you rights over your personal information. Residents of other US states with comprehensive privacy laws, such as Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas and Oregon, have similar rights. Subject to legal exceptions, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you, including the categories and specific pieces collected.
  • Delete personal information we collected from you.
  • Correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising. We do not do either, but you may still submit a request.
  • Non-discrimination. We will not deny service, charge different prices or provide a different quality of service because you exercised your rights.
  • Use an authorized agent. You may have someone you authorize make a request for you. We may ask the agent for proof of your written permission and ask you to verify your identity directly.

Where your state law provides a right to appeal a decision about your request, you may appeal by replying to our response.

11. How to make a request

Email hello@townsaid.com with the subject “Privacy request” and tell us which right you want to exercise. We will verify your identity by matching the email address and account details we already have, and may ask for additional information if needed. We will respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we will tell you why, and we may extend by up to another 45 days where the law allows.

12. Children

Townsaid is a business service and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page, and if the changes are material, we will notify customers by email before they take effect.

14. Contact

Questions about this policy or your information can be sent to hello@townsaid.com.
